Wetwall addresses CMU’s primary concern by offering a grout-free, watertight system with far fewer seams than tile. The team selected Larisis Marble for a modern aesthetic across all new showers. This naturally inspired design features cool-tinged greys and wispy streaks to create a graceful, clean look that feels comfortable and elevated.

The architectural team on the project was led by Larry Hepworth of Salt Lake City-based Design West Architects. He was familiar with Wetwall and suggested it as the optimal solution. He says, “We like the fact that you can cut the product to the shape and size of each shower and be able to make that work that way.”

Nate Seitz, owner of Seitz Trim Company, a custom millworker based in Grand Junction, handled the installation of all shower surrounds. While Seitz employed an assistant to help speed up his process, he notes that Wetwall installation is easily a one-man job.

Seitz says, “With Wetwall, I can do one shower in less than an hour. If you’re tiling, it’s a day-and-a-half job. Wetwall is significantly faster.”

The Wingate Hall addition was completed on time, and the new showers are performing exceptionally well under daily student use. The facilities team is enjoying easier cleaning, reduced maintenance issues, and a more refined appearance across the new apartments.

The success was strong enough that CMU recently awarded a Phase 2 project with Wetwall! In the near future, additional student apartments and an outdated locker room on campus will feature the modern alternative to tile.
